The Falls Tower is finally down!

It took about a month, but the Falls Tower finally came down. Yesterday the gondola was off, and then either yesterday afternoon or early this morning the rest of the tower itself came down. Now we’ll see what’s going in there…

Could they possibly expand the Swiss Fudge Factory? I hate the stand in line atmosphere as it is now I wish it was in the store type shop again.

From what I’ve read it will be a new store.

    HERE I AM!!!

You know what?? I never went on that thing. The folks took us to Clifton hill WAY back (the Bibleland wax museum, Ripleys and such) but in later years we stuck closer to Maple Leaf Village when we were down that way. My parents were never big fans of Clifton Hill. My husband and I have explored it more in recent years.

As far as towers go - we did the Skylon and Panasonic from time to time, but not this one. So not so much “the end of an era” for me as it is for Sue :(. I’m sorry that another part of your Niagara experience is gone.

As far as Clifton memories - I KNOW the parents have some pictures of the old wax musuems. I’ll have to see what I can dig up. And I shocked my coworkers the other day when I rattled off the name of the world’s tallest man because I knew it from the GBOWR museum - Robert Wadlow - I know because his chair is out front of the place.

I don’t know why these things stick in my head - I wish I could make room for more important things! lol!

With regards to what is going in there, I think it is going to be a replacement fudge store. If I recall correctly, the artists rendering of the overall plan that HOCO took to city council had a fudge store in that place. That doesn’t mean it is going to be a fudge store for sure, but it was in the plans at some point.

I’m not disappointed at all to see it go. I never really thought it was anything exciting. The only good thing was my wife, who is afraid of heights, went up it with me. She won’t go on the SkyWheel :-(
For what it’s worth, I think the best tower to view the Falls from is the Konica Minolta Tower. Anything lower than that is too short, and I think that the Skylon Tower is almost too tall. The KMT is right above the Falls, and is a perfect height. I loved it!

I know what you mean about “too tall”. I enjoyed the Sheraton fallscam ( http://www.fallsview.com/Stream/NightVisionStill.shtml ) much more when the hotel was SHORTER. Now that the cam is higher, I can never really see a blue sky for some reason. The only way I can really tell if the sun is shining is if there are shadows on the buildings and cars in the parking lot.

Maybe it’s the height - more haze or atmosphere between the cam and the falls. Maybe it’s the heavier mist that started happening around the same time…all I know is that it’s not the same as it used to be when I came upon it 6 or so years ago.

Should we start the argument about what’s causing the shift in the mist? lol!

We rode the tower on our last over-night stay. I honestly never cared to go on it, but hubby had memories of riding it as a kid, so we gave it a shot. We went up at night and the view of the hill was awesome! I can’t wait till we get to do the Wheel.
