There is some work going on at the Skylon Tower. I don’t know what it’s for (maybe because of the fire?)…

I believe they’re just re-pouring the concrete on the steps (perhaps with some deicing features. They did some similar work on the other side of the entrance earlier in the year.
Apparently they did just paint the siding on the complex a light blue. I haven’t seen a picture of it yet.
Ive always thought the Skylon wasnt used properly. The pyramid place building seems like a waste of great property as well. I read niagara tourism was moving in there, but seems like better use could be put to that building. The shops in the Skylon, and the arcade downstairs seem like they could use a facelift to offer something new and different. The revolving dining room doesnt seem like its ever changed menu or interior either…although Im sure they make a TON of money with it. Last time I was at the Skylon in mid June it seemed very “old” inside, hasnt changed much since I was a kid. The shops they have seem very old and dirty, has a swap meet feel. Maybe Im in the minority in thinking if you re-packaged the restaurant, and re -did the arcade aarea, and shops they would have more of a gold mine than they already have. It was empty when I was there except the lines for the ride to the top.
Believe it or not, the arcade/food court area WAS just totally redone within the past couple of years. Just shoes how they don’t really have a clue.
Niagara I think the Skylon would need to do more than that with all the competition. HOCO has a much larger plan which so far seems to be working. I think a new plan, similar to what was proposed as the Skylon Pavilion, would make it into a Niagara destination.
yeah you can tell some very very minor changes have occured, but it still seems like a ghost town in there. Whats the skylon pavillion??
I have always liked the Skylon tower, at least from the outside. It was there the first time I had been to the Falls back in the late 80’s, and was one of the first things that caught my eye (after the falls of course). So it says “Niagara Falls” as much as the Falls do. But, yes, I agree… it seems they could use it better. It’s hardly changed from the first time I had been inside it way back then. It’s definitly in need of some remodeling, and updating to keep up with everything that is growing up around it.
We had dinner in the Revolving Dining Room once. It was nice, but except for the revolving view, it wasn’t anything special.
Each time we visit, I expect Pyramid Place to be gone and something new and flashier in it’s place. I always thought that the Skylon itself would have attracted more business to grow right there around it, but that never seemed to happen, it was alway over there by itself.
The Skylon Pavilion was one of the many proposals that the Skylon has tossed around in the past 20 years, none of which have ever come to fruition. It was recently discussed here:

That would be awesome if it was ever done.
“The revolving dining room doesnt seem like its ever changed menu or interior either…although Im sure they make a TON of money with it.”
That’s really the main issue. That dining room makes a ton of money, and it allows the owners to be very conservative with what changes they make to the rest of the complex. There have been amazing looking plans floating around for Skylon redesigns for years, but nothing ever happens and I don’t think anything will so long as the restaurant is profitable.
