This billboard is by the Dairy Queen at the corner of Stanley Avenue and Lundy’s Lane (or Ferry Street, I’m not sure what it’s called at that point):

The text of the billboard is as follows:
Everyone loves their freedom!
Please don’t support places that keep whales & dolphins in captivity
This message presented by Niagara Action for Animals and Zoocheck Canada. For more info, go to www.zoocheck.com
Now they don’t specifically mention Marineland, but that is obviously the place they don’t want us to support. I’m not sure how effective the message is. If anything, there may be people who drive by and see a beautiful picture of an Orca whale and decide they want to go see them.
funny…we drove for hours on friday..when we saw this billboard..neither my husband or i read it…just saw the picture and assumed it was advertisement for marineland…hey..at least in captivity..they’re cared for and fed..and that goes for all the other animals too..deers..etc..petting zoo animals….
Sue,
You clearly have half a brain and no clue about anything. You should really sit and thing before you open your mouth…
think*
Curtis, I have no tolerance for critical comments like that. If you have a comment about Marineland, go ahead and make it, but don’t speak poorly of other website visitors who you don’t know and as you say, have “no clue about anything” about them. I’ll ban the email address, name, and/or IP if I need to.
I worked for marineland for the first little bit of the summer and I want to point out that in some ways I agree with this cause and in other ways I don’t. Just one thing I want to point out: Marineland has a FULL TIME veterinarian employed as well as various care-givers. Something to think about.
MLC has clearly learned from the past. I read on Facebook from a regular, that they fired the trainers from 70′s,80′s and 90′s because of reported abuse, MLC does take care of their animals a lot better now adays and take care of them 24/7, but I think the trainers have shifts.
STOP THIS !
Animals are not objects.
The way that dolphins are wrangled, captured, and sold in Japan is horrendous. Anyone familiar with these torturous methods would boycott marine land and sea world. These animals do not belong in captivity, they are not “benefitting” from veterinarian care and by being fed in captivity. The lives of these Animals is much richer in the wild. Do not let the dolphins “smiles” fool you. Dolphins at Marineland are not smiling, they are taken from their families and forced to perform for what?
Wow, Sue is an idiot. These whales and dolphins in captivity don’t even live to half their life expectancy (as compared to the wild.) Animals in captivity are deprived space, are taken from their normal environment and family and are subjected to perform tricks for humans in what is a bathtub for THEM! These animals are known to get angry and even COMMIT SUICIDE. Don’t believe me? Look it up for yourself. Oh yeah but there’s a veterinarian so that makes it all better…
