Canadian Idol Finalists Coming to the Falls

Louis Bretton, the Marketing Manager at the Niagara Falls Marriott left a comment on a previous post that I have moved to here:

Canadian Idols that we heard and loved during last season’s most-watched TV show are anything but idle.

Three of the top ten finalists are in the area for the next two weeks to record their debut CD of original songs. Ashley Leitao of British Columbia, Amber Fleury of Alberta and Casey LeBlanc of New Brunswick were hand-selected by Mark Lalama – local guy done good – to record their first compilation of specially written songs just for them.

Lalama, pianist/arranger for Canadian Idol had this to say about these young, budding stars: “I handpicked these girls after working with them. They have a natural vocal blend and complimentary styles.” He will be producing 11 tracks for them at his Fenwick recording studio – The Old Sumbler House.

These handcrafted songs are written by songwriters such as Paul Lalama (Jonesy, Up Your Kilt), Jaylene Johnson, David Tyson (who has written for Amanda Marshall, Joe Cocker, Alanah Myles) as well as Lalama himself – who has worked with Marc Jordan, Amy Sky, Susan Aglukark, Farmer’s Daughter, Frank Mills, George Fox amongst many others.

So – what is this new trio called you ask? Everyone involved is tight-lipped and keeping that information under wraps. The girls are arriving Tuesday, March 21st and will be here for an intense 10-day recording session – day in and day out – so they won’t get much oppportunity to see the area.

The Marriott Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel & Spa has arranged to whisk them away from the studio on Friday afternoon (March 24th) and show them Niagara Falls. “None of the girls have seen the Falls so as the best 4-diamond 5-star luxury property in the area, we felt it was our duty to show them around” said G. David Searle, General Manager of the Marriott. “As members of the hospitality industry, it is only fitting that we extend a warm welcome to our Canadian stars.” The girls will arrive at the hotel at 6740 Fallsview Blvd., Niagara Falls at 2pm Friday for a brief “meet & greet” before they go off to see the city and its sights.

They will visit the main attractions, fly above the Falls with Niagara Helicopter, enjoy a wine tasting at one of the local wineries and visit the prettiest town in Canada – Niagara-on-the-Lake.
